What if the events in a key era in our history were actually completely different than what our history textbooks try to tell us? What if Master Jan Hus didn't even get warm in Constance, let alone burn up? What if Jan Žižka had more than one healthy eye? This animated comedy from director Pavel Koutský playfully breaks the myths about the Hussite era as the pedestal of history is occupied not by preachers and military leaders but by two unbelievable scatterbrains, who become the heroes of their time against their will. Čeněk of Wartenberg, the highest Bohemian burgrave, chooses them as ideal pawns for his refined game of chess, deftly manoeuvring between the rulers Wenceslaus IV and Sigismund. Mlhoš and Záboj are not capable of fulfilling even the tiniest of tasks, which they compensate through their typical Czech cunning and their art for madcap improvisation, ultimately influencing the course and the outcome of the Hussite Wars. angol A number of reviewers and "reviewers" ask who The Hussites is intended for. Children? Adults? After today, I can safely and a little selfishly say that it's probably me. If the film had been less drawn out (especially the part between the rescue of Hus and the birth of Žižka), it would have been even better. The film is not lacking in ideas. Pavel Koutský is at his best in the moments when all sorts of drawings come to life (the inventor's fighting machines, especially the first tank with a metal ax instead of a cannon), the dubbing is also very good (it's a pity that Viktor Preiss doesn't sing when Hus sings, given the fact that is able to sing), as well as the music, although it’s not by Petr Skoumal but rather by Miroslav Kořínek. It's simple entertainment, but it's not defective in any way or downright offensive. But when I think of Lucky Four Serving the King... Brrr. ()

angol When you see Otakar Vávra's Jan Hus one day and then this film the next, you wonder if the contemporary creators were being serious. The animation isn't bad, but it’s more suited for a comedy. Unfortunately, I don't think this portrayal of Hus and the Hussites is the right approach. In my opinion, it is not, and it is not even entertaining. ()
