Deja vu all over again. Indeed, the troubles repeat themselves over and over again. Two or three times a year I look forward to a new film, but I'm wary and scared, because this time I know that it will be a bad one... and yet, it's excellent again. I don't quite understand the awkward marketing that regularly misses the mark, even though it should be very easy to promote such good films. And this time, moreover, I feel that the particular crisis that accompanied the series after the end of Fairytopia has finally been averted. This year, we can again look forward to a third film, while also delighting in similar assets from Princess Charm School that have been built upon countless times and always with success. There is even a small reference to The Nutcracker and an environmental appeal similar to the one in Thumbelina. Princess Charm School is a combination of the main themes from such films as Maid in Manhattan, Ocean's Eleven and The Princess Diaries, and yet works much better than the aforementioned films individually. The main motif of the film combines the real world, healthy feminism (such as in Barbie as the Princess and the Pauper), and a fairytale world where everything stands and falls with perfect etiquette. After 2008, when Barbie and the Diamond Castle and Barbie Mariposa and Her Butterfly Fairy Friends premiered, it was as if Mattel had taken a liking to fictional worlds. If it’s possible Barbie stays grounded at least in the form that Barbie Princess Charm School presented, I might be satisfied with it.
