Martha vissza akarja kapni az életét. A fiatal lány egy szektából menekült el. Rég nem látott nővérétől, Lucytól és annak férjétől kér segítséget, de nem képes elmondani nekik az igazat eltűnéséről. Fájó emlékeitől rátör a paranoia, úgy érzi, a szekta még mindig hatással van rá. A határvonal a valóság és az képzelet világa között hamarosan kezd elmosódni. Az átütő erejű pszichothriller/dráma főszerepében Elizabeth Olsen látható, az Olsen nővérek (Mary-Kate és Ashley) húga, aki alakításával óriási figyelmet keltett szakmai körökben. A karizmatikus szektavezető szerepében az Oscar-jelölt John Hawkes (Winter's Bone – A hallgatás törvénye), nővéreként Sarah Paulson (Spirit – A sikító város) látható, sógorát pedig Hugh Dancy (A Jane Austen könyvklub) alakítja. To wake up and be sodomized by a rickety Bruce Springsteen, who will then write a beautiful hit about you? Some users would benefit from it, first in the ear and then in the eye. The disgusting, suffocating, schizoid debut of a man who can easily have as bright of a future as PTA, which I thought about a few times while watching this female existential horror. What Durkin does with the pre-camera space (we pseudo-intellectual nobodies call this mise-en-scène - a scene for misanthropes) I consider an unprecedented shot below the belt with the aim of dumping the viewer in the underexposed mud of agony, uncertainty and schizophrenia. I give it five stars because I like it when the movie ends and I feel like taking a brain shower. Because the world is just like that. More when I die. One of the movies of the year.

I hate it when I have to give an average rating to an above-average film! But there’s not other way about it, MMMM simply didn’t deliver an above-average experience. It’s terribly slow, long and unsurprising, but at the same time, it’s very well made and performed, atmospheric and oppressive.
