angol In the critical year of 1938, which marked an early end for Baarová in German-language film, she said goodbye in true style. The two films she made, A Prussian Love Story and The Gambler, are both excellent costume dramas. While A Prussian Love Story draws its inspiration from the amorous outburst of the young Emperor William I of Prussia (1797-1888), The Gambler is a rewrite of Dostoevsky's novel. A Prussian Love Storyis a compelling melodrama that is captivated by the depth of feeling of the main love couple, but also by the warm relationship between Elisa and her rival, Princess Augusta of Saxe-Weimar-Eisenach (1811-1890). The story is introduced by a small reminiscence in 1884 and it tells the story of the entire end of the life of the never-forgotten Elisa until her last hour, and thus it does not end prematurely in 1826 as the sportsman believes. However, this is how I imagine the ideal Reich film - a model of pre-war Europe, a brace for expensive flawless production design, a quality cast, and overall film work of a very high standard. ()
