Miután egy megvadult kutya megöli a kilencéves Alice-t (Ella Connolly), a szülők, Louise (Eva Birthistle) és Patrick (Aidan Gillen) úgy döntenek, hogy a távoli Wakewoodba költöznek. Hamar szembesülnek azzal, hogy a helyieknek bőven van titkolnivalójuk. Maradásukért cserébe Arthur (Timothy Spall), Patrick főnöke beavatja őket a nagy titkukba. Ha valaki meghal a kisvárosban, akkor annak testén keresztül egy szertartás segítségével 3 napra visszahoznak az élők sorába egy olyan személyt, aki egy éven belül hunyt el. Regardless of how you approach this film, it’s worth mentioning that, among the new works of the reanimated Hammer studios (Let Me In, The Resident, Wake Wood), this one is the most “hammerish” in terms of atmosphere, theme and execution. The performances are wooden, the script is unconvincing (when the two protagonists learn about the “pagan ritual” they believe it way too easily; when a character is ambushed by the “Grim Reaper”, they don’t try to escape), the gore is amateurish and the film as a whole looks as if it had been shot a “few” years ago. But I’m really not sure if that bothers me or, on the contrary, if I liked it in some way. Cautious thumbs up, but this certainly is not horror for everyone.
