De verstekeling

Film narrative focusing about two people who, by coincidence, appear in each others live. The young Orazbai lives with his father in the former fishing village Munjak in Uzbekhistan. They can no longer fish because the inhabitants around Aral Lake had to watch as the water recedes leaving desert, as a result of excessive irrigation. While his father stends his days on a stranded fishing boat, Orazbai wants to flee the cheerless situation and look for a future elsewhere. He wants to stow away on a ship that will take him to America, but ends up in Rotterdam. There he is offered shelter by the sailor's wife Katharina. Orazbai falls in love with Katharina, but that doesn't please the sailor. (Nederlands Film Festival)
