After the death of their father, two sets of half-brothers begin a bloody feud that raises questions about the bonds of family and the value of revenge. After raising Son (Michael Shannon), Kid (Barlow Jacobs), and Boy (Douglas Ligon) in an abusive environment, their alcoholic father turned over a new leaf and started a new, respectable life--with another family. Very good début. A war between two families set in the American backwaters, with slow pace, decent performances, summer atmosphere, nice shots of the landscape and the suspicion that the central petty conflict can end very badly. Vengeance isn’t always sweet, or even cool, more often than not, it will get you in deep shit. 7/10
