1996-ot írunk, amikor egy dél-koreai kisvárosban (Muju) megkezdődnek az építkezések annak érdekében, hogy a település sikerrel pályázhasson a 2002-es téli olimpia megrendezésének jogáért. Mivel a helyi önkormányzatot arról értesítik, hogy a koreai sportolók száma nem éri el a megszabott kvótát, a városvezetés egy nemzeti síugró válogatott létrehozásával oldja fel a problémát. A szedett-vedett amatőrökből álló társaságból egyedül a síelői múlttal rendelkező, koreai-amerikai csapatkapitány (Ha Jeong-woo) lóg ki, aki azért érkezett Dél-Koreába, hogy megkeresse rég nem látott szülőanyját. In the first half, this movie is almost distasteful, thanks to the “I suppose I’d better be try and be funny" trainer. Then the second half has more tears and pathos than anything else of the kind. Plus the forcibly inserted clash with the US team... It’s almost a shame to waste words on this shower. So why the high score in the end? Well, I have a soft spot for ski jumping and I must admit that they are presented so wonderfully and spectacularly here that this is crying out to be projected in an IMAX theater.

Sports movies may not be my cup of tea, but the Koreans managed to draw me into the plot in such a way that I instantly become sports fan number one. Take Off seems like a nice comedy at first, but as time goes on it gets into the depth of the family problems of all the characters. So aside from how I kept giggling, I was also slightly touched at times. As that would suggest, it wasn't hard at all to get into the plot and start rooting for the boys. Especially towards the end, it was pretty suspenseful. A nice film, 4 stars.
