The owner of a travel agency specializing in extreme sports receives an interesting request – a trip down the dangerous Black River. The client who initiated the expedition has, it seems, a very serious reason for wanting to go to this remote area, where a Czech water sport enthusiast once died under mysterious circumstances. For Saša, the mystery of the distant family tragedy is almost forgotten. Now the chance to learn the truth has come. But the other members of the expedition have no inkling of the real aim of the trip. In the days that follow, they will have to not only reach to the very depths of their physical strength, but also to discover what words such as courage, fair play, friendship, and love mean to them, and to come to terms with the truth, no matter what it is. This thrilling tale with its mystery-laden plot promises a dynamic display of action – a group of people clash in an uneven contest with a savage natural element, self-appointed law enforcers, and their own limitations. angol A dreadful attempt at an adventure thriller that resulted in an unintentional parody of the hixploitation genre that brings to mind a blend of The Rafters and Deliverance. The primitive plot culminates with a transparent twist, which is presented as surprising and shocking, despite the fact that it had to have been obvious to viewers no later than the midpoint of the film. As time passes, the suspense and mystery fade from the story instead of building up. The actors are there only so that there is someone to hold the paddles; the female characters are there so that each of them can show their breasts at least once. A shining exception is Miroslav Krobot, who is the only one to hand in something that could be called an acting performance. Unlike the others, only his character is given some dimension and at least a little spontaneity. The retarded would-be Balkan language of the natives/cops is in a category of its own and definitively buries the last hope that anyone could take this unentertaining and agonising film seriously. angol I’m not sure what Filip Renč experienced on his float trip in Montenegro, but it must have been something terrible since he decided to take it out on me by making this film. I don’t know why that is, but when Czech filmmakers decide to shoot an action film, it usually ends up being a disaster. In this case, the film had two modes - boring (floating along a calm stretch of the river and related dialogue) and dumb (action scenes). I just wonder what hallucinogens Filip Renč had been on back then. Anyway, I have no idea what sort of message he wanted to convey with this film but I'm sure not going to search for it. ()
