Based on Rebecca Miller's book of short stories.Delia (Kyra Sedgwick) is a young mother stuck in an abusive relationship with her husband of twelve years. One night after he brutally beats her, Delia finally attempts to reclaim some of the power she's completely lost. Greta (Parker Posey) is a cookbook editor at a crossroads in life, "rotten with ambition" and semi-struggling with issues of fidelity to her kind but unexciting husband. And Paula (Fairuza Balk) is thrust into crisis after having a near-death experience. Driving to her mother's house in upstate New York, she picks up a hitchhiker, a badly beaten young boy who helps her discover a new sense of spirit. As each story unfolds, each woman finds herself forced to make a decision... a decision that will change her life forever. angol I didn’t like the “independent at all costs" style in which Rebecca Miller approached these portraits. Particularly the over-use of the narrator was downright bothersome. It is cheap and should probably have been made into a radio play. However, Personal Velocity has certain qualities that cannot be denied. While Delia and Greta’s stories are potentially interesting, but boring in form, the portrait of Paula is at least a piece of quality filmmaking, if nothing else. The almost zero use of music was disappointing. All the time I couldn’t help thinking that I was watching a variation on The Hours, just several quality levels lower. ()

angol Life speed, life lightness, lifelong ignorance. You can criticize their actions but at the same time, you feel how genuine their stories are. The most memorable experience is definitely the middle narration about Greta. Her emotional motives grip the soul, and the final moment when the heroine realizes what her next journey in life will be like is unforgettable. ()
