A balta

(Filmcafe)

angol Great fun, but to watch it only once. It’s nice that the film doesn’t take itself seriously, otherwise it wouldn’t work, because the main villain is not scary at all. If you’re looking for a thoroughbred B-movie that will make you feel sorry that it’s ended, Hatchet is the right choice. ()

angol Like Slither a year earlier, Hatchet is a gleefully filmed comedic homage to the genre, and yet it feels like an otherworldly (literally) revelation compared to a former Troma charges’ unfinished attempt. Such an insane cadence of shallow infantile humor looks like something out of the Monty Python films, and at times I found myself shaking my head in disbelief at the brutally overblown stupidity of the characters while also rolling with laughter. I can imagine a sequel, but I’d push the splatter level a notch higher than in any mediocre Friday the 13th film. ()

angol A good one-night stand. Little Viktor is the Ugly Betty of mutant maniacs and he would like to see everyone around him chopped into pieces, for which he has a lot of space and it's usually quite funny. His victims are satisfactorily sketched from complete morons – from hysterical little ladies to a couple of nice guys – so you can both enjoy the creative murders and keep your fingers crossed for the more normal ones in the end. It's boorish bollocks, of course, and the dialogues are not very good, but the heaps of insight, a few very good jokes and a cute morbid ending help it keep its distinctive parody face and the viewer just doesn't get bored. 60% ()
