A tizenkét éves Lewis igazi csodagyerek, aki feltalálta az Emlékszkennert. Lewis azt reméli, hogy a gépezet jóvoltából végre megtalálhatja a vér szerinti édesanyját. Mielőtt azonban Lewis megvalósíthatná tervét, a szerkezetet ellopja tőle a velejéig romlott Kalapos férfi és nem kevésbé gonosz társa, Doris. Lewis a két gazfickó nyomába ered.
