A unique movie from the late period of the French New Wave with an all-star cast. Ivan, a handsome gigolo, and his new lover Emmanuelle (a daughter of a retired crime boss) are hiding in Provence, at their friends’ luxury villa. Soon, the tricky games of love commence. (Summer Film School)

angol Interestingly, Grisha Dabat (with the help of Roger Vadim) contributed only one movie to the French new wave and then did not make anything else. And Satan Calls the Turns is not a second-rate piece of work, and should not have been compared to other nouvelle vague movies. However, it is a weirdly shot movie (what was the reasoning behind the editing?). Coming from the classic subject matter of muddled minds in a tangled web of relationships, a criminal element is thrown into the storyline to spice it up (which appears to be unjustified and is rather comical). Moreover, the fact that the male protagonist could be such an idiot and dumps his girlfriend, a nineteen-year-old Catherine Deneuve, only underlines the fact that nobody behaves rationally in the movie. This is an unconvincing spectacle albeit with a relatively interesting ending. [LFŠ 2019] ()
