Babar, miután anyját lelövi egy vadász, elszökik a dzsungelből és egy városban találja magát. Összebarátkozik egy idős hölggyel, aki ruhákat vesz neki és iskolába íratja. Unokatestvérei, Szelesztína és Artúr rátalálnak Babarra a városban és segítenek neki, hogy visszatérhessen az elefántok birodalmába.
