A császárpingvinek megközelítőleg száz évvel ezelőtt találkoztak először emberekkel, amikor az első felfedezők az Antarktisz jégsivatagában jártak. A rendkívüli hideg és zord körülmények miatt az ember még sosem volt tanúja a pingvinek vándorlásának. A film forgatása 13 hosszú hónapig tartott, de végül sikerrel járt a küldetés: a pingvinek életmódját természetes környezetükben örökítette meg a kitartó stáb. A film történetet mesél, ábrázolja az érzelmekben gazdag jellemek különös és látványos sorsát, megjegyzésekkel, humorral ötvözve. Misztikus és leplezetlen dráma, ez különbözteti meg a tudományos fejtegetés monotonságától. (RTL Klub)
