Seth Brundle megszállottan dolgozik a teleportáló gépén. Már csak egyetlen kísérlet van hátra, hogy egy élőlényen is kipróbálja a gépet. Saját magán kezd kísérletezni, ám a teleportálás pillanatában egy légy is bejut a gépbe. Seth a kísérlet végén még nem is sejti, hogy testének genetikai állománya összekeveredett egy légyével. Hamarosan furcsa tüneteket észlel magán: ereje és teljesítőképessége emberfelettivé válik, és teste is elképesztő változásokon megy keresztül.
