A very well cast satire, still apt, funny and compelling. But Václav Wasserman made a similar "revisionist" theme again twenty years later - in Nejlepší člověk with Vlasta Burian - and in my opinion even better. As far as the music is concerned, I can't believe that only the song "Šaty dělaj člověka" comes from Jaroslav Ježek's pen, because especially the song that sounds when Kaplan and the other convicts leave the prison is pure Ježek. If it was composed by Julius Kalaš, then hats off to him. (2015.02.08)

Werich is simply incredible in this role. He's not bad, but still a real scoundrel. But those idiots simply deserve it. The way people are portrayed in the film is unbelievably relevant and it should still be reflected in the present. People are stupid, but they don't mind as long as they are doing well. Maybe they just need to choose their hero carefully. (2014.12.22)
