Every ten years or so, the all-purpose title The Trap is applied to a film about psychological rather than physical entrapment. This 1966 British/Canadian coproduction stars Oliver Reed as a roughhewn fur trapper of the 1890s. He has missed the annual "wife auction" due to inclement weather, and must settle for what's left: a timorous mute girl, played by Rita Tushingham. Though she lives in mortal terror of her husband, Tushingham nurses Reed through a near-fatal illness. The location photography of The Trap is awe-inspiring. (forgalmazó hivatalos szövege)

angol The coexistence of a rough and tumble self-made man played by Oliver Reed and the charming mute girl Rita Tushingham (those eyes!). You couldn't find a more mismatched couple. And yet they're getting along... In a certain indiscriminate way. As if the film wasn't strong enough in following their slowly (un)developing relationship, first comes the visit from the Indians and then the whole thing with the trap, the wolf pack attack, the nerve-wracking escape and the axe. Very good. An intrepid, superbly acted story supported by the haunting music of Master Goodwin. ()
