young journalist, Joven (Arron Villaflor), interviews General Antonio Luna (John Arcilla) as he prepares for battle. Little does he know that certain elements in the army are loyal only to President Emilio Aguinaldo (Mon Confiado) and question General Luna’s authority. The newly formed cabinet is also divided: the elite members, men like Felipe Buencamino (Nonie Buencamino) and Pedro Paterno (Leo Martinez), are pro-American, while others, like Apolinario Mabini (Epy Quizon) and General Luna himself, take a militant stand. As politics divide them, the American troops take Manila. (Abramorama Films)

angol The Filipino historical film "Heneral Luna" definitely has its flaws and at times looks very amateurish, but at the same time, there are moments that showcase the power of cinematic storytelling and how it is possible to emphasize history and politics, as well as human attitudes such as loyalty or betrayal. Surprisingly, the performances are very well done, with the gore scenes being the most surprising. ()
