Charles Morse (Anthony Hopkins) öregedő milliomos, akinek csinos feleségén kívül egyetlen szenvedélye az olvasás. De a nők - úgy tűnik - kevésbé megbízhatók, mint a könyvek. Morse arra gyanakszik, hogy fiatal fotómodell feleségének, Mickey-nek (Elle Macpherson) viszonya van a megnyerő modorú divatfotóssal, Robert Green-nel (Alec Baldwin). Robert és Charles közös kirándulásra indulnak, repülőgépük azonban lezuhan Alaszka kietlen erdőségei fölött. Az öregedő milliomos és a divatfotós magára marad a vadon mélyén.
