Tim jó képű, ám enyhén szellemi fogyatékos fiú. Építkezéseken dolgozik, és állandó céltáblája kollégái gúnyolódásának. Egyik nap találkozik Maryvel, a középkorú, magányos amerikai üzletasszonnyal, aki felfogadja ház körüli munkákra. Idővel Mary egyre közelebb kerül Timhez, és amikor a fiú anyja meghal, szinte a pótanyjává válik. A barátságuk végül szerelemmé mélyül. Tim nővérének azonban nem tetszik a dolgok ilyetén alakulása, ám a fiú apja rájön, hogy a kapcsolat mindkét fél számára előnyös. (Cinemax)

The film starts with the standard introductions where Mel Gibson is introduced in the role of this weird but nice guy who doesn’t seem to be intellectually disabled per se, but who at the same time is no Stephen Hawking. On top of that, he’s wearing these really tight short shorts, a black T-shirt and he keeps mowing the same spot on the lawn in the garden again and again. That’s probably to make an impression on the landlandy, femme fatale and actually also the dominatrix of the 1970s – Piper Laurie. I actually watched the movie out of interest, it being one of Mel Gibson’s very first movies. And I have to say that Mad Max is a different league.
