A kilencéves Calogero New York olaszok lakta negyedében, Bronxban él a szüleivel. Apja, a buszvezető Lorenzo vasszigorra neveli őt, de egyúttal igyekszik a legtöbbet nyújtani neki és megóvni az utca kegyetlenségétől. A fiú szemtanúja lesz egy gyilkosságnak, de a rendőrök erőteljes ráhatása ellenére sem hajlandó azonosítani az elkövetőt. A helyi keresztapa, Sonny felfigyel a srác bátor tettére, és védőszárnyai alá veszi a gyereket. Calogero hamarosan a maffia nagykutyái között találja magát és apjaként kezdi tisztelni a törvényen kívüli Sonny-t. Fia megóvása érdekében Lorenzo nem fél szembeszállni a város rettegett gengszterével, de ekkorra már kérdésessé válik, hogy melyikük képes nagyobb hatással lenni a könnyen befolyásolható Calogero-ra. A more straightforward, simpler and brisker film than its more famous gangster relative, but I didn’t mind, quite the opposite. I was not unnecessarily distracted by a million important secondary characters and the story focusing solely on the main trio managed to hold my attention, which in gangster films tends to get lost. Anyway, I will never find love for this genre. 8/10

Robert De Niro's directorial debut is as unpolished as it might seem according to the first assumptions. It has a well-constructed plot and traditionally excellent performances underpinned by an interesting topic.

Hats off to De Niro, such a directorial debut would be the envy of many. A sober and engaging mafia film that doesn't just try to empty as many clips as possible, but beautifully guides us through an uneasy coming of age tale in an era of racial tension and mob bosses. While almost nothing extraordinary or suspenseful happens, the film is so beautifully and fluidly shot that you'll enjoy it. De Niro plays his role with as much gusto as ever, and he’s also well supported by Chazz Palminteri, who’s perfect for the role of a gangster with his cool expression. I don't think A Bronx Tale should be in the top 200, but as an insight into a complex time and culture it's perfect.

Incredible surprise because I didn't expect much from the movie, and I actually hadn't heard much about it, but Robert De Niro delivers an excellent performance as both an actor and a director, and it is crowned by other outstanding acting performances and a captivating story. This is a classic drama executed excellently, and it's definitely worth seeing.
