A film a történelem öt különböző időszakában játszódik, Robin Williams minden korban más-más szerepet játszik. A történetekből kiderül, hogy az ember a történelem hajnala óta mindig ugyanazért a négy dologért küzd: ennivalóért, biztonságért, szerelemért és egy pár cipőért, ami a lábára illik. A hatezer év alatt a barlangban lakó ősember, a rabszolga, a középkori vándor, a felfedezések korabeli kalandor és a modern ember ugyan különböző környezetben, más-más adottságokkal és társakkal, de mindig ugyanazért harcol: hogy ember maradhasson a talpán. A film nagyszerűen bizonyítja Robin Williams tehetségének sokoldalúságát. (InterCom)

So I really couldn't get into this. It's like someone was trying to make "Cloud Atlas" before it was even written, but didn't really know what they wanted to say, they just messed around with human destinies that are absolutely uninteresting. Only Robin Williams shows here how great of an actor he was, but what's the point of so much effort when the result is just oddity?

We are only human and this film will show us, with five stories from five different environments, that as humans we have qualities that are definitely worth shit, and which we unfortunately will not get rid of. The movie addresses these qualities in an imaginative way. Robin Williams is also great. What is worse is the rendition, whose quality during the 117-minute running time fluctuates in an unbelievable fashion. Even though the setting of the short stories is more than interesting. But that is of little use when none of the stories end with any kind of a moral lesson or at least anything that would stick in my memory.
