angol From the fragment left of La fille du régiment (The Daughter of the Regiment), it is clear that this was another excellent bit of buffoonery with Anny Ondra tailor-made for her. Ironically, she sang four charming hits for this film, but only two of them made it on to the records. In Donizetti's original comic opera from 1840, the Ondra-Lamač-Film team found the ideal basis for the uninterrupted escapades of eighteen-year-old Mary, who grows up with a whole regiment of dads from the 13th Scottish Regiment. She is lovingly cared for by all, but unfortunately, their shared idyll is about to come to an abrupt end and Mary is about to become a civilian. This is, of course, not to her liking, and so she is able, with a little cunning and tenacity, to reach a very attractive compromise. The Daughter of the Regiment or Anny Ondra in an attractive Scottish uniform surrounded by a regiment of admirers. Could you ask for more? Perhaps just a complete copy of the film. ()
