Alex is chief tailor in a shop on one of Paris' grand boulevards. A year ago he was sacked. So his wife left him and he had to leave his flat and find an interim job as a guide in the Parisian sewers. Thanks to the caretaker of the block, who is fond of him, he was kept as his only home the refuse quarter in the basement. That's where he keeps all his gear. To alleviate his solitude and his housing problem, Alex has got into the habit of choosing, each night, any Parisian flat that his fancy and gatecrashing for the night.
