John Winger nem az a munka hőse típus, egyheti munka után úgy érzi, megváltotta a világot. Barátnője azonban megelégeli a mimóza életét, és faképnél hagyja, nem sokkal azután, hogy a bank lefoglalta a kocsiját. John egyetlen módot lát kilábalni a bajból anélkül, hogy dolgoznia kéne: bevonul a seregbe. Rábeszéli cimboráját, a szintén munkakerülő Russellt, s hamarosan a hadsereg kötelékében találják magukat. Ám csalódniuk kell, az álomutazások és a pénz helyett egy kemény kiképzőtábor kíméletlen őrmesterének szakaszába kerülnek. (Filmcafe)

When I saw that one of the older movies directed by Ivan Reitman was to be shown on HBO, I was hooked. And I became even happier when I saw Bill Murray and John Candy in the cast list. The movie itself, however, unfortunately wasn’t as good as I imagined. The movie is actually funny only thanks to these two actors. The rest is rather average. I don’t know what to compare it with, as it’s actually quite silly. And as for the ending that involves Czechoslovakia, Ivan Reitman could have done better. I understand he makes fun of everything he sees. The Czech signboards are also nice, but why is everybody speaking Russian?

Almost every movie that somehow involves the military seems interesting to me, but it's true that this comedy didn't impress me at all. Bill Murray and Harold Ramis are fine here, but the overall vibe just isn't enough to knock me out. There are indeed a few funny scenes and lines, but not that many, yet at the same time, it's evident that it's not a dumb comedy.
