Miloš Zábranský’s psychological drama about two brothers of radically different natures felt like a miracle at the end of the 1980s. Not only for its convincing depiction of reality or outstanding acting of Jiří Schmitzer and Ondřej Vetchý, but also for the narrative structure and strong spiritual dimension. (Summer Film School)

angol Miloš Zábranský is one of the individuals of the 1980s whose star power went down before it went up. However, his loose trilogy, full of parables and religious mysticism set in the greyness of everyday life, has much to offer. At least as evidence of how far contemporary frustration and futility have reached. Of course, the initial situation is ordinary, but therein lies its strength. ()

angol Back when the film came out, I would have given it 5 stars without any hesitation and spoken of it with enthusiasm. It disrupted, as the very first one of its kind, the previously monolithic content of socialist cinema, as it featured previously unacceptable topics and religious symbols. However, after 30 years, this psychological drama has become exhausted and one watches it without unnecessary nostalgia. In this genre, there are much better-executed titles. Only the outstanding acting performances of Ondřej Vetchý and Jiří Schmitzer remain, portraying brothers with completely different and contrasting personalities. Overall impression: 55%. ()
