Bancroft (2017) (sorozat)

angol I certainly wouldn't want to cross Superintendent Elizabeth Bancroft. I get chills down my spine just thinking about that unscrupulous hag. The series highlights how difficult it can be to take down an intelligent criminal who is also a high-ranking police officer. The opening episode didn't convince me much, but otherwise, I have to praise the artfully constructed script and the rare balanced quality of both seasons, and I devoured the final episode. (75%)

Ugyanaz, de mégis más (2009)

angol It's rare to make a film about great love where one of the partners falls ill with a fatal disease without it becoming a real wringer of emotions. Here I feel that the German filmmakers truly succeeded. Apart from the story itself, you may be intrigued by the exotic Cambodian setting in which much of the action takes place. The meticulously arranged soundtrack, featuring both European and Asian music, also deserves special attention. (75%)

Ricky (2009)

angol The story itself is not bad. Ozon's Ricky is definitely worth noting. I just couldn't completely overlook the fact that from about halfway through the movie, it's essentially a load of nonsense. (60%)

Tükör/Szilánk (2008)

angol "You have conquered, and I yield. Yet, henceforward art thou also dead - dead to the World, to Heaven and to Hope! In me didst thou exist - and, in my death, see by this image, which is thine own, how utterly thou hast murdered thyself." +++ From the beginning to the end, an oppressively disturbing atmosphere pervades the film, foreshadowed by an ominous quote from Edgar Allan Poe right at the beginning. Psychological games like the ones in The Broken can scare me far more than flowing streams of blood. (70%)

Casting na lásku (2020)

angol I was expecting this to be a lot worse. It is, after all, just a modern-day chick flick aimed mainly at middle-aged women, which may not thrill, but also won't offend. Except it doesn't have much to do with comedy. (35%)

Évek alatt (2019) (sorozat)

angol The British miniseries Years and Years lets viewers peer into the near future through the dramatic fates of the extended Lyons family, and the view is not at all pleasant. Everything seems so realistic and sometimes even scary that I was absolutely swept away and devoured the story like a madwoman. Russell T. Davies truly put a lot of effort into the multi-layered screenplay, meticulously crafting it down to the smallest details. Each episode is literally packed with information, clever ideas, and plot twists. Although I've known it for a long time, the central idea of the whole series deeply resonated with me, that we are responsible for everything that awaits us and our world, whether it happens or not. The vision that if we do nothing about the weather we will be forced to live in shelters at some point in the future is unfortunately not far from the truth. The final loving conclusion accompanied by ethereally beautiful music moved me to tears after all the emotionally tense scenes. (95%)

Lázadók (2019)

angol Strangely enough, I laughed quite a bit, even though the humor was often on the simple side. I enjoyed the setting of the fish cannery the most, where some quite interesting situations unfolded. The performances of the central trio, played by the hitherto unheralded Cécile de France, Yolande Moreau, and Audrey Lamy, were also impressive. Towards the end, the content felt quite far-fetched to me, but I definitely wasn't bored, and that counts for something. (70%)

Axolotl Overkill (2017)

angol It feels like both a screenplay and life chaos, with the main character being somewhat unbearable, but rebellious youth might find something to relate to in her. All that frenzy and provocation is lifted by a superb soundtrack, which was to be expected. (50%)

Abszurd alak (2015)

angol With this fresh film, Woody Allen once again charmed me. I really love his philosophizing, which he scatters around in abundance without even asking if anyone still cares. In Irrational Man, however, he managed to almost perfectly blend all those existential thoughts with subtle, unobtrusive humor and then let this explosive mixture detonate in a brilliantly timed battle for life. Since I've already praised the director, I can't overlook Joaquin Phoenix either, for whom the titular role fit like a glove, and he clearly relished it with gusto. (90%)

A Szoba (2019)

angol I would like to start by mentioning that I am not a big fan of unreal stories and supernatural phenomena. In that strange house with an even stranger room, I quickly found myself drawn into the story, and from then on, I eagerly awaited to see how it would all unfold. I wasn't too scared, but I have to admit that I haven't seen such a good mystery horror film in a long time. In addition, The Room managed to make me think about questions with a philosophical overlay, which I really appreciate, because there aren't many films in the genre that can do that. (80%)
