A csempész (2018)

angol Clint Eastwood has failed to disappoint me yet again. He wasn’t trying to deny his age and didn’t embarrass himself in desperate attempts at action scenes. Many an elderly action hero should learn a lesson from him so that they wouldn’t make a mockery of themselves. Anyway, back to the film, Eastwood's hero got to the other side of the law, and he did it gracefully for his age. The pace was far from frantic, yet I didn't get bored for a second and had a great time.

Úriember revolverrel (2018)

angol All things considered, the screenplay is nothing special, but the acting performances of Robert Redford and Sissy Spacek gave it the right energy. It wasn’t the kind of film to keep you on the edge of your seat, the pace was rather lazy, yet I wasn't bored and had quite a good time.

Életrevalók (2017)

angol I give two stars to the Americans for not ruining the original premise. Otherwise, there was not much to evaluate as it was basically a carbon copy of the French Untouchables, the biggest change being the relocation of the story overseas.

A tökéletesség (2018)

angol I think that drama/thriller would be enough for the list of genres. There’s no way this can be called a horror film. Anyway, the film worked very well for me until the creators ruined it by providing clues for people with no imagination. If it hadn’t been for that, I would have added another star. By the way, it never occurred to me that I would discover yet another sexual practice (especially in a film permeated with cello music) but fisting without a fist convinced me that nothing is impossible. 3*+

A szörnyvadász (2018)

angol I think I can safely say that I've never seen anything like this. For a film with hardly any actors or plot to have such a perfect atmosphere, is something that hasn't been seen yet. I can't shake the feeling that even a single action scene would totally ruin the whole film. If I compare the Head Hunter with megalomaniacal blockbusters overflowing with pathos and CGI, this is a total victory of minimalism and quality filmmaking. P.S.: Since there was no attempt at taxidermy, staying in that cabin must have been a real challenge for anyone with any remaining sense of smell.

Colette (2018)

angol Although the film wasn’t a disaster, I expected much more of the theme and especially of the Paris setting. The pace of the story was quite lazy, Keira Knightley gave an excellent performance as usual, but the script didn't really develop the story or the title character. The only major takeaway for me was that I learned about an author I had never heard of until today.

Az ördög benned lakozik (2012)

angol I’m not a huge fan of films about the exorcism of various kinds of demons from the infernal hierarchy, so my excuse is that I got to see this film by a mere coincidence. Plus, when I found out it was filmed in the same way as The Blair Witch Project, I was sure I would give it a low rating, but eventually it turned out that the film had a pretty decent unsettling atmosphere, the priest mortality rate was satisfactory, and it wasn’t boring.

Alita: A harc angyala (2019)

angol I actually had no idea what to expect from Alita, but I certainly wasn't disappointed. The protagonist amused me just by opening her eyes for the first time. I had seen Christoph Waltz in Big Eyes, so when Alita first looked at him, I couldn’t help laughing. But seriously now, the action scenes were decent, I didn’t mind the CGI, and I would have given the film five stars, if it hadn’t been for all those unnecessary clichés and melodrama. Based on the ending, I would say that the authors were preparing themselves for a potential second installment. If there is one, I definitely want to see it.

Egy háború margójára (2019)

angol I didn’t think much of the script. Although I hadn’t read the summary or users’ reviews before watching it, a few minutes into the film it was clear to me what it would be about. The film certainly wouldn’t win any awards for originality. But I didn’t mind. I liked the way the creators approached the events taking place in post-war Germany and that they were not afraid to look at things from both sides of the barricade. The less interesting (romantic) part of the story surprisingly developed in the same way as the actual military conflict. Here, too, the German blitzkrieg penetrated a weak British defense, only to run out of steam in the end so that Britain could celebrate its costly victory.

L'Ordre et la morale (2011)

angol If I hadn't recently seen Hotel Mumbai, I would have rated this higher. This way, the plot seemed a bit boring at times. I understand that when the main character is a negotiator, there will probably be a lot of talking. However, with a running time this long, the film could really use some action. Otherwise, I was very satisfied, I can’t wait for some ex-slaver, ex-colonizer or ex-Nazi country (fill in the names of the countries yourself – they can fall into more than one category) to teach us about human rights and how we should treat our ethnic minorities.
