Európa a jövőben (2021) (sorozat)

angol Tribes of Europa, February's most anticipated series is finally out and, even though I was expecting a much bigger smash, it's still very decent and entertaining post-apocalyptic stuff with an original world. The story is set in 2074, Europe has suffered a mysterious global catastrophe that has brought it back to the Middle Ages, where, instead of states, there various tribes with different traditions and technologies. The idea is great and I enjoyed exploring that world with the main characters. Unfortunately, it’s not as dirty and action-packed, but it reminded me a lot of Hunger Games and The 100, so if you're a fan of at least one of those, you won't be disappointed. The series has a nice production design, when it comes to action it's brutal and nicely shot, the intrigue, betrayals and twists work well to the point that I feel the Germans are building their own Game of Thrones. I was most impressed by the tribe of black crows, the villains – their Princess Varvara with her Angelina Jolie look is literally hypnotic with her sex appeal . There are three storylines going on at the same time and all of them are interesting and engaging enough in their own way. I had a great time and am excited for the second season. The cards are dealt and as a start of something spectacular, Tribes of Europa is solid. It's strange It=s strange that there are three characters that look almost exactly like Angelina Jolie, Mads Mikkelsen and Jennifer Lawrence. Pros: interesting and originally imagined world, solid pacing, likeable characters, a decent dose of twists and intrigue, the visuals and the brutality. Cons: lacks a downright epic action scene, the script could have been more imaginative. 7.5/10.

Fontos vagy nekem (2020)

angol Rosamund Pike plays your typical, ruthless, evil, confident bitch who literally gets away with everything. The film has a compelling story about a woman who steals from defenseless pensioners and always gets away with it, until she runs into a lady who has dangerous friends. In addition to Rosamund Pike’s great performance, there is an excellent antagonist in Peter Dinklage (known to most as Tyrion). It’s nicely and engagingly shot, it has style, swing and panache, and plenty of twists and turns are not spared and suspense. I certainly wasn't expecting such an entertaining, engaging and intelligent film. Netflix is on. Story****, Action>No, Humor** Violence**, Funniness****, Music***, Visuals****, Atmosphere****, Suspense***. 7.5/10:

Pánik élő adásban (2021)

angol I was looking forward to Shook thinking that it would be another addition to the Skype/Cam subgenre, but in the end it is a classic thriller that doesn't really stand out. It's not intelligent, suspenseful or brutal enough – it’s phone calls and conversations than anything else. The opening murder with a heel is solid and the main character is quite likeable, the denouement is okay, but unfortunately I wasn't really into it. I found the whole thing too light and made for TV. The 4.4 on IMDB is appropriate. Story***, Action>No, Humor>No, Violence*, Entertainment**, Music**, Visuals**, Atmosphere***, Suspense**. 4.5/10.

Hernán (2019) (sorozat)

angol A tip for a new historical series! For those who are tired of Vikings and Barbarians, Hernán offers a look at Hernán Cortéz, the Spanish conquistador who conquered the Aztec Empire. It’s a nicely made exotic series with well written characters (Hernán and the Indian woman are great), a beautiful setting (the Aztec pyramids), nice music, decent battles, nothing epic but at least they are there, and there are also two story lines from the present and the past that are told simultaneously. It's confusing at first, but you can get used to it. Enjoyable mostly because of the setting and Mayan culture. Story****, Action***, Humor>No, Violence***, Entertainment****, Music****, Visual****, Atmosphere****, Suspense***. 7.5/10.

Mosquito: The Bite of Passage (2016)

angol A funny and entertaining short about a mosquito mother and son, where the son has to pass the test of adulthood, that is to suck his first blood from a man even though he himself does not like blood. 7/10

School's Out Forever (2021)

angol A Pandemic thriller crossed with a school invasion and it's good fun, with a sometimes unexpected edge! An apocalypse breaks out in the world, a deadly virus and people start going crazy, looting, killing. Corpses litter the streets, rival gangs form and the action focuses on St Mark's School, where a group of immune students struggle to survive. It's got decent visuals, likeable actors and when it comes to action it's thrilling and suitably brutal. The only downside is that the film is kind of silly, especially at the end some of the decisions downright annoyed me, but otherwise I had an above average time and there are more dead bodies than I would have hoped for before watching it. Definitely a good one-shot. Story***, Action****, Humor**, Violence***, Entertainment****, Music****, Visuals***, Atmosphere***, Suspense***. 6.5/10.

12 év rabszolgaság (2013)

angol A film with a strong theme, but unfortunately nothing for me. The acting is very good, Michael Fassbender, Chiwetel Ejiofor and Lupita Nyong'o give solid performances. Unfortunately, even though the film has a strong story it ends exactly as you expect. It's funny that the supposed 12 years in the film feel less than a week, one would think that much more happened in those 12 years than the film presents. But I didn't care much for the characters, the emotions left me cold and it has a very slow pace that drags on perhaps even more than the main character's 12 years. That blacks were slaves and had it tough back then everyone knows, but I don't know why I would watch a two hour movie about it. 5/10.

Monster Hunter – Szörnybirodalom (2020)

angol I'm satisfied. I got what the trailer promised. An hour and a half long epic battle between Milla Jovovich, Tony Jaa and monsters. There is action from start to finish, the visuals are awesome, the soundtrack is intense, the monsters look great (quite possibly the best dragon on screen ever), and there are two badass scenes (the spiders!). I didn't miss a more interesting story that would have slowed down the pace. Dramas come out ten a week, but such an epic monster slaughter comes out only once a year and I definitely find this more enjoyable to watch than self-absorbed arthouse crap. Maybe switching the desert location for a jungle wouldn't have been a bad idea, but otherwise I really don't know what else an adaptation of a game that's about nothing but action and monsters has to offer; the film certainly doesn't disappoint in that regard, and to only have 12 percent more than the ultra cheap shit Sharknado is absolutely laughable. Anyone who likes monsters, action and likes to have fun at the movies can't be disappointed. Story**, Action****, Humor** Violence**, Funniness****, Music****, Visuals*****, Atmosphere****, Suspense***. 7.5/10.

Mindhunter: Mit rejt a gyilkos agya (2017) (sorozat)

angol After a long time of procrastination, I finally got into Mindhunter and finished both seasons in a couple of days. Season 1 honestly didn't blow me away that much, it took me a while to get used to the slow pacing, the lack of violence and the action definitely frustrated me, but the closer it got to the end the more the series gradually won me over. The finale of the 1st season is very intense and made me want to watch the second season immediately, and I finished that one in one day. The interviews with the serial killers are definitely disturbing and some of the best the series has to offer. I was downright blown away when the storyline moved to Atlanta halfway through season 2, during the hunt for the killer of 25 children, where the police had almost no evidence. That's where David Fincher was at his strongest, in a stiffing and uncompromising atmosphere. Both FBI actors are excellent and Anna Torv downright annoyed me how unlikeable and cold she was. The disturbing music is also excellent. The series is definitely memorable and it's a shame there won't be another season. Story*****, Action>No, Humor>No, Violence*, Funniness*****, Music*****, Visuals*****, Atmosphere*****, Suspense*****. 9/10.
