R (2010)

angol I ignored the film for a while, as the mere label of drama is not very appealing, but now I am completely emasculated by what a raw Danish prison drama gem I have seen. The acting is top notch (Pilou Asbæk and Roland Møller are excellent), the visuals are very bleak and authentic, the bullying is presented in a very unpleasant way, and earning respect or making friends in such an environment is definitely not easy. I also praise the harsh scenes and the shocking ending, which I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy. A great and authentic experience in a harsh environment. The Danes rock when it comes to prisons and schools. 85%.

Hívatlanok 2 - Éjjeli préda (2018)

angol The first part was a home invasion, which is always a welcome theme for me, but the second part is already a sprawling camp slasher that is easily interchangeable with dozens of others. But I'm pleased with the decent technical aspects, the fine trio of bad guys, the dying characters, both good and bad, the retro songs evoking an 80's feel, and the pretty intense final 20 minutes where there's a bit of blood, but otherwise I don't see anything special. It's okay for one viewing, but it could have been better. 60%

Bosszúvágy (2018)

angol I'm satisfied and I'm glad that five years after Red 2 Bruce Willis made again a decent movie from my favorite genre, revenge. Story-wise it doesn't bring anything new to the table, but it's a ride from start to finish, decently acted, pleasantly gory, with one solid gore scene and an intense home invasion where the emotions soar to 160 degrees. I had a great time. Eli Roth, Bruce Willis and old-school revenge, I like this triple combo. 80%.

Daelibgoon (2017)

angol Quite a decent historical-war film from South Korea, starring Lee Jeong-jae. The technical aspect is decent but nothing extraordinary, the storyline is quite interesting but not very engaging for my taste, and the film unfortunately drags in places. There isn't that much action and the only spectacular scene is at the end, and is definitely one of the best of the film. It's both raw and decently gritty. Nothing great, but ok to watch. 60%.

Négyen a bank ellen (2016)

angol A pretty decent German comedy with nice actors who want take revenge on a bank because it ripped them off. Til Schweiger is great, the humour didn't quite work for me, after all the Germans are behind compared to France, but I wasn't bored. An unpretentious feel-good movie. 60%.

Deadpool 2 (2018)

angol Deadpool directed by the guy who killed a dog in John Wick is back, and it's the ultimate smash, earning the title of best film of the year so far (only Mission Impossible 6, Sicario and Jurassic World have a chance to beat it). Avengers: Infinity War was admittedly more fateful and darker after the second viewing, but I was slightly bored in the first half, since there aren't that many jokes and action in the space of two and a half hours. In contrast, Deadpool 2 is an uncompromising ride like a motherfucker from start to finish, where black, sarcastic, racist humor alternates with sickeningly brutal action that made my balls shrivel. Josh Brolin as Cable gets another medal (I hope this guy will only get cast as a villain), the pop culture references are all over the place like in Ready Player One, the action is more brutal than any exploitation film, the humour is funnier than any comedy, and the pace is faster than a TGV train. I myself don't know what other movie would have so many genre ingredients combined and that to me makes it a true film nerd orgasm (I was blown away by the similarly minded Kingsman last time). People who appreciate story over humour, action and violence won't be so happy. The handshake scene is one of the best Marvel has ever had. The whole theater applauded. PS: Domino is a Lucky Pussy! 11/10.

Darc (2018)

angol A low-key revenge romp in the style of The Punisher! A young boy loses his mother, a prostitute, bumped off by the local Yakuza gang. Once he grows up he decides to take revenge and go over dead bodies. The story may be nothing original, but formally the film ticks all the boxes. For a B-movie, the film is technically good, the acting is decent (the lead has charisma) and the action is great, both the fights and the shootouts – there is no shortage of severed limbs or heads. It's Hard R-rated, so there's a lot of sex and naked women, lots of violence and there's also a lot of drug use, so those who like films like this will definitely have fun. For me it's decent. 75%.

A bosszú (2017)

angol It's nice to say that France is back! Revenge is another enjoyable addition to my all time favourite subgenre rape and revenge (I Spit on Your Grave is still unsurpassed, though). The film impresses especially with its excellent cinematography and beautiful visuals. The desert, the beautiful Matilda Anna Ingrid Lutz, who runs around the entire film in cut-off shorts covered in blood with a stick in her stomach and a sniper rifle in her hand, decent bad guys, nasty gore, a lot of unconventional retro disco music and a few standout scenes. The only problem is actually the not very explicit rape scene and the small body-count. Intellectuals and geeks may not get past the immortality of the main character and the almost minimal story, but everyone else will have a great time with this juicy sexy ride from France. 80%

Adžin (2017)

angol Quite possibly the best film based on a manga that is not only watchable, but offers more than solid action scenes. The Ajin are demi-humans and have the ability to revive themselves every time they are killed, making them nearly immortal. There are only a few of them in the world, and the government is after them so that they can research them. The story focuses on one Ajin who becomes a fugitive. The only thing that bothered me a bit about the movie was the digital ghost that each Ajin can summon, but thankfully that didn't get as much space. It's got a decent pace, surprisingly solid technical execution for the Japanese, and the action scenes are very colorful, bloody and gritty, in short, my style. Decent film and Takeru Sato from Rurouni Kenshin was great. 75%

Anon (2018)

angol Pretty decent utopian sci-fi crime film with a decent Clive Owen and Amanda Seyfried. Andrew Niccol apparently wanted to follow up his success with In Time with a similarly interesting theme, but didn’t quite make it this time. The premise is certainly interesting and there are some solid sequences (there’s no shortage of blood and nudity, plus points for that) and the conclusion could have been more intense. It's good for a watch. Definitely a better effort from Netflix. 60%
