A férfi mind remél (2011)

angol One of the few Czech films that I saw in the last year, and probably the only one that I went to see in the cinema. That's what you get when you drag your girlfriend to movies she doesn't really enjoy. But in the end, I actually didn't regret it. I had seen "Women in Temptation" before and I liked the film. I laughed, it didn't leave any lasting impression, and I could move on. It's similar with this comedy, which can bring you joy when you come across it on TV a few times. I read quite a few reviews of "Men in Temptation" criticizing it for being simple-minded, for giving Czech people what they want. Sexist humor, nice breasts, and a normal story. Well, but when the breasts are so nice?! Vica Kerekes is a naturally gifted woman and I also have a weakness for redheads. Now I'll find out if my brunette girlfriend reads this. It suits her and Macháček, the guy, is envious. Female viewers envy Vica. But both male and female viewers laugh at it. And that's good. A light film with a slight tragedy that surprises a little. Sure, it's just a comedy, it wants to make people laugh. That's what it's about, right? I would burn those silly criticisms claiming it's not art. Of course, it's not art and it doesn't pretend to be art. It's a well-made comedy and that's what matters. And a damn good-earning comedy. Leave the art films to Sláma and others like him. By the way, what's the audience turnout for his films? More: http://www.filmovy-denik.cz/2012/06/past-na-zraloka-21-jump-street.html

21 Jump Street - A kopasz osztag (2012)

angol Do you remember that series from the 80s where Johnny Depp started and which actually made him famous? That series about a group of policemen who go back to school, pretend to be students and solve cases? The series "Jump Street 21" also aired on our TVs and I think it left a mark on many people. It's a classic and sometimes classics need to be revived. Jonah Hill joined as a screenwriter and he and Channing Tatum played the lead roles and also decided to produce the film. This seemingly mismatched duo turned out to be a great move. Yes, a film was made based on the original series, with new characters - mostly - and a new story. The foundation doesn't differ much. The duo of police officers goes to high school because they have to solve a crime. There are definitely differences compared to the series. The film is grittier, more profane, and I think it's also more entertaining. I laughed out loud several times, and I would say that's good proof. Some scenes are really unbelievable, only occasionally and very rarely slipping into silly humor. The bar is set quite high and the production companies should be kicked for giving up on releasing "21 Jump Street" in our cinemas, even though the premiere was originally planned. It's a pity, this comedy deserves it, not only because of nostalgia. This duo of police officers will suit you, you will laugh or at least smile, and even though you might not remember the film in a while, it will be a pleasant experience for that moment. Rumnapló (2011)

angol Johnny Depp is currently an actor who can get viewers into the cinema simply because he is in the film. I think he also saved Tim Burton's latest film "Dark Shadows". "The Rum Diary" is not a film that I would go to the cinema for, but it was Depp himself who made me watch it. It's not a bad film, at times it's not a bad comedy, but I just have the feeling throughout the whole film that it relies solely on Depp. Put someone else in the lead role and it won't have the same success. It won't be as funny. "The Rum Diary" tells a not-so-exciting story about a journalist who finds work in Puerto Rico. It's the setting that spices up the film. The setting and Depp. Thanks to him, the film comes alive, although it's true that Giovanni Ribisi or Aaron Eckhart also did a good job. But the film didn't stick in my mind as much as I would have liked.

Pénzcsináló (2011)

angol Even though I have already seen the film "The Artist", I still think that Brad Pitt deserves the Oscar for Best Male Performance for the year 2011, specifically for the film "Moneyball". Do you like baseball? No? Well, I'm not a fan either, who regularly watches matches. I've only seen a few in my life, but when you watch American movies, you simply can't avoid at least hearing about baseball. For many Americans, it is the number one sport. Children grow up with their dad throwing them a ball, not just throwing it, but throwing a baseball and catching it with a baseball glove. Baseball is a sport but also a business. Some teams simply cannot afford to buy good (expensive) players, and that is why the "Moneyball" system was created - "buy faulty goods, maybe something will come out of it". Brad Pitt plays the manager of a team that relies on this technique. Yes, it is based on true events and characters, and yes, it is an excellent film that is definitely worth it. Brad Pitt is absolutely magnificent in the role, whether as a tactical manager or a loving father. I don't seek out sports movies, but this one was just great in the cinema. Mr. Magorium meseboltja (2007)

angol I avoided the film "Toy Story" for quite a long time just because it seemed very childish and maybe even crazy at first glance. However, upon further inspection, the film is something more. This is a family film that can truly appeal to the whole family. It is wonderfully imaginative and playful, just as a family film should be. Dustin Hoffman showed that he is not afraid of any character and can handle anything. His Magorium is appropriately eccentric, which is also emphasized by his diction. Natalie Portman is beautifully believable as always. The role suits her, just as it suits Jason Bateman, whom I would easily label as one of the kings of serious comedy. Essentially anything he is in reaches a high level, setting the bar quite high with his acting, at least in comparison to the average or below-average comedic genre of today. He doesn't appear in vulgar films by Judd Apatow, but good comedy doesn't have to be vulgar. "Toy Story" is a film that touches your soul, plays with your childish side, and does so in a pleasant way. More: http://www.filmovy-denik.cz/2012/05/9-umelec-diktator-nacho-libre-rise.html

Nacho Libre (2006)

angol If Jack Black tried in the case of this film, then all other factors were against him. I read somewhere that "Nacho Libre" is a comedy. However, there must have been a mistake because the film is actually not funny at all. On the contrary, there are moments that are rather serious. Jack Black is a monk who "cooks" in a monastery, but his dream is to be a wrestler, which goes against the church's orders. But you can't command the heart, and so Nacho Libre is born, a wrestler who wants to give to the poor. Well, it's not original. Personally, I really like wrestling, but there's not much of it here either, because the only match that is even slightly worth something is the final match. Moreover, even in this aspect, the creators didn't try too hard and simply have nothing extra to offer. They stick to stereotypes, try to be absurd, but they're just embarrassing. Jared Hess tries a slightly different kind of comedy, he just forgot to make it funny and only does it a little differently. A diktátor (2012)

angol Sacha Baron Cohen is one of the most original comedians of today, as well as one of the most controversial, who is not afraid to go to extremes. His films "Borat" or "Brüno" are clearly controversial films, with the first one based on the United States of America and the second... well, actually that one too. The same goes for his new film "The Dictator", where he mocks Arab dictators, but also the world's fear that behind every Arab there is a potential terrorist. The most brilliant scene in the film is the scene in the scenic helicopter, where two Arabs and two Americans are sitting. The Arabs are joking in their language and the only thing the Americans hear are words that they are afraid of. I don't want to reveal more because this is really a scene that one must see. If you don't laugh out loud at this, then nothing will make you laugh. Sacha Baron Cohen has a sometimes simply silly humor, but at times he is absolutely brilliant. He is critical, he is bizarre, he is vulgar, and he is foolish. Together, it makes a comedy that either impresses or disgusts you. But isn't the power of controversy in this crazy comedian? Keep going. More: http://www.filmovy-denik.cz/2012/05/9-umelec-diktator-nacho-libre-rise.html

The Artist - A némafilmes (2011)

angol When I found out which film won the main awards at the Oscars, I was very surprised. The best director was a Frenchman that nobody had really heard of before, and the same was true for the best actor category, where I was disappointed that Brad Pitt didn't win the award, as he deserved it a lot. Perhaps he should have danced in "Moneyball." However, the biggest shock was that the award for the best film went to a movie that was neither American nor co-produced, it was a French-Belgian film. "The Artist" was personally like a bolt from the blue for me. The presence of several film stars in it still doesn't make it an American film, but on the other hand, a film was created that is incredibly American in the sense that it takes place in the USA, from 1927 to 1932, which were not only the years of the crisis but also the years when the transition from silent film to talkies was happening and the stars of silent film were forgotten. This is exactly the case of George Valentin, who can't come to terms with the fact that people want to see talking actors. "The Artist" is a film that showcases the era in its beauty, it is a tribute to American silent film and silent film in general, it is a beautiful film, a film for the viewer. Yes, it is possible to watch a silent film and enjoy it even in the 21st century. It is good that the film made it to cinemas and that people know about it. Perhaps there will be increased interest in other silent films of the modern era. Michel Hazanavicius created a work that is not stunning in terms of the script, but it is stunning in its presentation, form, and cinematic beauty. 9 (2009)

angol Animated films are usually imagined as those movies that you go to with children because there are a lot of colors, some cute creatures that kids will love, well, and if it's not Pixar, usually a proper story is missing - although it's not a completely true rule. What is the domain of the movie "9" is animation and generally the visual aspect. This animated film is dark, dark in its atmosphere and environment in which it takes place. Let's face it, the story is not completely childish either. Shane Acker came up with a short film called "9" in 2005, which was successful, so Tim Burton, Timur Bekmambetov, and other producers decided to support a feature-length version. This is exactly the kind of movie that could be in the spirit of Tim Burton's style, but it's missing something. Primarily a proper screenplay. In the final form, it's nothing more than a film with a dark side that gradually eliminates a limited number of representatives of good. A little inspiration from kung fu movies, a little effort for cute moments. It's a shame, unfortunately, because this film had the potential for so much more. The presented world is truly dark and unpleasant. It could have almost been a horror film, but it fell short so that the film could be accessible to children. And yet, the film has a PG-13 rating, which means it's not suitable for children. More: http://www.filmovy-denik.cz/2012/05/9-umelec-diktator-nacho-libre-rise.html

A sötétség határán (2010)

angol A bit of an impotent thriller. And not just because radiation can be what causes impotence. Besides bleeding vomiting and other problems. I'm glad Mel Gibson returned to the craft. I highly appreciate him as a director and I am sorry that he currently has nothing planned. His "Apocalypto" and "The Passion of the Christ" are personally perfectly executed films for me. But let's talk about "Edge of Darkness". The beginning is good. The father's beloved daughter returns, who is apparently sick, but before he can take her to the hospital, someone shoots her. Mel doesn't know who, that's what he has to find out. The start is good, the viewer expects some interesting cat and mouse game, twists, but nothing like that happens. Mel stumbles between assholes and faux-badasses and gradually discovers the truth that the United States are actually real bastards and they do whatever they want with nuclear weapons. Another huge revelation of how bad things are in America - from a political perspective and the attempt to gain power. This is something the film has in common with "The Green Zone". Well, let them make movies about it, but it's not that groundbreaking anymore. The worst part, however, is the ending, which tries to be poetic about as much as a tramp who starts reciting passages from "Máj" in a croaky voice by the fire.
