Bosszúállók (2012)

angol During one month, I witnessed that the cinema still has something to amaze with. The film "Prci, prci, prcičky: Školní sraz" completely knocked me out, and now "Avengers". Well, to tell the truth, I enjoyed "Prcičky" even more and I left with a feeling that I usually don't have in the cinema. But the impressions from "Avengers" are very similar. I went to the Czech premiere with subtitles a bit reserved because I was afraid that it would just be a big hype, but the rest would be disappointing. I didn't have to worry. Joss Whedon, the screenwriter, director, but also a comic book creator and especially a comic book enthusiast, probably created his best work. His TV productions are literally cult classics ("Buffy" or "Firefly"), but it will probably be the comic book that he will always be remembered for. He was offered to make a film about the Avengers, the team of the greatest Marvel superheroes, and that's exactly what he did. A great film about great heroes. Nagyon vadon 2. (2008)

angol "The hunting season" was not a particularly brilliant animation, but here and there it entertains with a few new witty lines, in this case spoken by a deer who has a little trouble with his antlers. Simply put, it's just your typical animated loser, following the example of Sid from "Ice Age". The duo collaboration between the deer and the bear doesn't work at all, the jokes are worn out, pseudo-grotesque, which I don't think will interest children too much, maybe only those who still enjoy watching those cute characters hopping and yelling. Why give the film anything more than that when parents with children will go see it anyway, or at least buy the DVD. Commercialism will eventually kill art, and if not art, then definitely originality. That is already in very short supply. A gondozoo (2011)

angol Kevin James is an actor who is probably best known as a sidekick to bigger acting stars like Will Smith, but above all, he has established himself alongside his childhood friend Adam Sandler. Lately, however, he has become the type of person who doesn't want to be mentioned until the second or even later in the credits. "Zookeeper" could be the film that brings him to the forefront. It seems to have succeeded to some extent, but we cannot say that he truly shone. "Zookeeper" is a traditionally awkward comedy, which mainly plays on the desire to be quite cool, which it somewhat achieves. Animals are great, especially when they are voiced by famous actors, including James' partner Sandler. However, the story does not stand out and is essentially about James receiving advice - from animals - on how to pick up a human female. It's somewhat like "Hitch," except it lacks that cool guy played by Smith mentioned earlier. More: http://www.filmovy-denik.cz/2012/04/jumper-babel-kung-fu-divocina-miami.html

Hupikék törpikék (2011)

angol "The Smurfs" should remain 2D. This was the first thing that came to my mind when I found out that they will be in 3D and with real actors. Such movies usually do not end well, their quality is very low. Such a movie like "Teddy Bear" could tell. Even "The Smurfs" are not a miracle because a film with digital characters simply cannot work so perfectly. Moreover, there is another problem, especially that the child viewer is probably the one who can tolerate any nonsense that the screenwriters come up with. When I remember such a film like "Tangled" and compare it to this one for children, "The Smurfs" come out as a completely defeated loser. There is little humor here, the scenes are silly, just like the whole story, cuteness then tries to redeem itself in the weakest moments. Gargamel is just ridiculous, and Azrael is the best character. The other live actors are not offensive. The only thing that stuck in my memory is the "high four" and how Gargamel walks through the mist. I even laughed. What was the story about? Actually, I don't really know, but that's not the point, right? They are supposed to be cute and capable of causing a frenzy. Miami Vice (2006)

angol Michael Mann is not among the directors that I actively seek out. His films have never been the ones that I felt compelled to watch, but I have heard a lot of praise for "Miami Vice". Additionally, Mann returned to a subject that he himself helped launch on television screens in the 80s. The series was cool, people started wearing what Don Johnson, alias James Crockett, and Philip Michael Thomas, alias Ricardo Tubbs, were wearing. The series became cult-like, and it still holds up today, just like the classics of the 70s and 80s. Colin Farrell and Jamie Foxx are maybe even cooler than their predecessors, and their action scenes work really well. Unfortunately, action is the main focus of the film and the collaboration between the two main characters is not given enough importance. Humanity is somewhat pushed to the background, and everyone is just a pawn in this great action spectacle. The ending, which tries to be emotional and romantic, does not save it. The content had to give way to the form. More: http://www.filmovy-denik.cz/2012/04/jumper-babel-kung-fu-divocina-miami.html

Azután (2010)

angol Clint Eastwood decided to shoot a film where he combines several different storylines into one in the end. We have the amazing Cécile De France playing a French reporter who almost died in the tsunami in Thailand, Matt Damon, who connects with the dead through human touch, those who were close to him, and finally two boys, twins, who can take care of each other until one of them dies. The film has its strong moments, which Clint handles brilliantly, but overall, it is a bit naive and simple, and in the end, it turns into a beautiful fairytale, which can't have any other ending than a happy one. But don't we deserve films where characters find a bit of their happiness? Don't we deserve a bit of unreality, something to uplift us when we need it? I feel like this is exactly what Clint had in mind. The world around us is cruel, death awaits us, we can't escape it, certainly not forever, so why not enjoy the life that is given to us, why not hope for something better. At the end, it doesn't have to be just a dark tunnel, there can be light. More: http://www.filmovy-denik.cz/2012/04/jumper-babel-kung-fu-divocina-miami.html

Út a vadonba (2007)

angol Sean Penn is mainly known as an actor, although it is definitely worth getting to know his directing work as well. Even if not the whole film, "Into the Wild" is definitely a movie that can captivate. It's not so much because you will agree with the hero, I mean, I think a lot of us will just think that he is an idiot, but it is still worth considering what message is contained in the film. It is not an empty movie. Reflect on who you are. Returning to nature is a profound metaphor. But you will find something there, something deep inside you, something hidden. Perhaps each of us should go through a similar journey to realize what is important here. But who among us has the courage to do that? I should probably stop before I start philosophizing too much. A pofonok földje (2004)

angol Kung-fu and comedy go quite well together. Bruce Lee already had it, but the main star who is famous for comedies and kung-fu is Jackie Chan. I have finally become familiar with the work of another significant actor and creator of Hong Kong origin, Stephen Chow. His "Kung-fu Hustle" is a beautiful example of how crazy a film can be, but at the same time it maintains a sufficient level. Chow received enough money for the film and it shows. The effects are good, if you accept the kung-fu flying, but the creator also played with the visual aspect and eventually with the story as well. It's a bit of "Oliver Twist", a bit of "Superman" and "Matrix", and a bit of "Kung Fu Panda". It's all together and much more, and it works together. Bábel (2006)

angol Alejandro González Iñárritu is a director who is not responsible for so much, definitely not one of those who make at least one film annually. However, his films are still etched into the memories of viewers - they are strong, emotional, and dramatic. No, there is really not much humor in his films, he rather focuses on the more depressing aspects of human life. What he excels at is connecting storylines. He proved this with "Amores Perros" and he succeeded again here. One shot changes everything. It seems like it only changes one life, but in reality, everything changes. Lives that were once led, fall apart. Everyone lives in some world, in a different world, and suddenly it no longer makes sense. How do we deal with it? There is nothing we can do but accept the change. Because then... then it's just damnation. Well, these really aren't films for pleasant evenings with the family. But at least you will take something away from "Babel". And if you're wondering why "Babel", try to think about how many languages are actually spoken here. Hipervándor (2008)

angol "Jumper" is a movie whose title caught my attention when I first heard it. In 2003, I wrote a short story called "Skokan" ("Jumper" in English). When I was thinking about what it would be called in English, it would be exactly "Jumper." When I finally watched the movie, I found out that it was based on a slightly different source, which was written by Steven Gould in 1992. Hayden Christensen played a young man who can jump in space and move from place to place through teleportation. The idea is nice, but the execution is a bit worse. The film tries to be cool, so it is action-packed, Samuel L. Jackson has a great look, but that's where it ends. Once a stupid connection with faith is introduced, the film lacks any real meaning and it becomes just a fight between the powerful against the oppressed. The allegory, in this case, doesn't bring much. More: http://www.filmovy-denik.cz/2012/04/jumper-babel-kung-fu-divocina-miami.html
