Csizmás, a kandúr: A három sátánfajzat (2012)

angol Together with Donkey, Puss is the funniest character in the entire Shrek franchise, and this animated short is proof of that. Add to that three naughty little versions of the titular cat and you've got yourself a fun time.

Almost Home (2014)

angol A nice and funny animated short that doesn’t stand out in any way. I'm quite curious to see what the feature film will be like.

Lourdes (2009)

angol After the screening of Lourdes I found myself in a lighter version of depression, which could be considered an achievement given the genre of this film, but after a short time the heavy feeling vanished like steam over a pot. It was the depressing feel of the film, which was probably mostly due to the cast and the setting in a spa, that somehow didn't sit well with me. Overall, however, it gave me a kind of bland impression, which might seem to contradict what I mentioned above. In short, a film I have no need to return to, but it's good for one viewing.

Itt a vége (2013)

angol This is the End is a comedy that is pulled from mediocrity by the actors playing themselves, a large number of parody and WTF scenes, but it is also marred by a number of silly and cheesy sequences that probably couldn't be avoided in a film like this. The best moments were a pretty funny parody of The Exorcist and a heavenly cameo by an unnamed band. In short, a film that satisfies as an average one-off and there is not the slightest need for anyone to ever see it again.

Az útvesztő (2014)

angol The Maze Runner works in a similar way to The Hunger Games: the story is set in an unspecified future, and the protagonists have to deal with a reality that operates according to the rules of someone from outside, or someone from above. The storyline builds up nicely to the very finale, which reveals the imaginative point of everything that's been going on throughout the film, and also sets the stage for the sequel. The cast was mostly good, and there were few quality scares, which is strange considering the setting in the middle of a labyrinth, but this wasn't a horror film after all. In short, a film that is another in a long line of various sci-fi products, but certainly doesn't disgrace itself and stays above average.

Sin City: Ölni tudnál érte (2014)

angol The second to Sin City is again full of very suggestive and imaginative visuals, but story-wise it is noticeably weaker than its predecessor, which had the primacy of the first (and therefore novel) film. From the cast, the one who impressed me was Eva Green, who enjoyed her role properly. In short, a sequel that didn't need to be made at all, but then again I would be lying if I said that the screening was a waste of time.

A galaxis őrzői (2014)

angol From Guardians of the Galaxy, I expected a similarly huge action and visual effects packed, properly humorous blockbuster as The Avengers. And I have to say that I didn't leave the cinema disappointed at all, but rather delighted. However, I must say that despite the great similarities, these two Marvel popcorn movies are different. Guardians relies a lot on a slightly spicier vocabulary and more macho-scenes. The film doesn’t lack action, there was plenty of it, and all the scenes and battles were clear. I really liked the choice of the soundtrack, which was full of oldies. Technically, it was a clean job. All in all, an amazing show that is a must see at the cinema.

Hogyan rohanj a veszTEDbe (2014)

angol A somewhat unconventional and quite imaginative look at the Wild West through the lens of a filmmaker who brought the most unusual stuffed animal to the screen. A Million Ways to Die in the West is undoubtedly a funny film, but at certain points the nice and casual humour becomes rather embarrassing and even fecal. The cast was well chosen, as were the cameos. In short, a film that had both bright and dark spots, and didn't offend but didn't impress either.

Transzcendens (2014)

angol The trailer for Transcendence really got me hooked, but then I saw all the negative reviews and decided not to go to the cinema, but to watch it online eventually. And I have to say, in some ways I did the right thing. From the technical point of view, the film is on a very decent level, even the story is imaginative, but to me the whole thing seemed soulless. I really didn't get what the poet was trying to say, or I guess I did, but nothing was said. Ridley Scott's Alien prequel Prometheus was similar, promising a lot, but in the end I felt rather robbed. In short, a film that isn't entirely bad in all respects, but disappointed me in several of them, so I'll stick to the bar of mediocrity.

A Grand Budapest Hotel (2014)

angol I really enjoyed Moonrise Kingdom and when I saw the trailer for Grandhotel Budapest, I couldn't wait. And after watching it, I have to say that it was indeed a rollicking, funny, colourful and well-written and acted ride. I thoroughly enjoyed the quirky characters that passed in front of the camera in nicely done interiors and exteriors. Mr. Gustav H.'s vocabulary always managed to make me laugh, as did his attitude towards reality. All the characters had something in common, but Mr. Gustav H. dominated them all. Those horizontal camera movements, the colourful sets and the playful music – I can really recommend this film, because I thoroughly enjoyed it. In short, a perfect Wes Anderson piece that caught my attention in every possible way.
