Prága szeme (2010)

angol What more can I say? An attractive case handled by a couple of women who had no problem being right in the thick of it. The result is a pleasantly clear documentary mapping a topic that has affected the Czech media space for two years.

Jan Saudek - V pekle svých vášní, ráj v nedohlednu (2007)

angol "Art is bullshit. Let's stick to that." A controversial work in its time, today it is just an ordinary puzzle piece of the Jan Saudek puzzle. Jan is a person who deserves his share of attention, so let's not deny him it. Even if it had taught us nothing else than that beauty has many forms, that would have been enough to record it in our memories.

Karel Zeman, a filmkalandor (2015)

angol A nice documentary matching the reputation of the activities around the Karel Zeman Museum. Here and there we get an interesting observation, a conveyed love of the subject, and interesting period material. The attempt to repeat some of the special effects sequences also works as a distraction. The only major mistake is the classic performance of the arrogant Kamil, who sometimes says inappropriate things.

A vörös cárnő (1934)

angol Masochistic aesthetics in all its developed glory. Hollywood Baroque. Or Catherine II's life journey to the top, defined by her tenderly decadent sexuality. "It is easier for you to scream without a straw in your mouth."

The NeverEnding Story (1995) (sorozat)

angol A very simple animated version of Ende's The Neverending Story. The target audience is even younger children than those for whom the live-action series is intended. But that's absolutely fine because anyone who likes to spend time in Fantasia will enjoy these stories too. In addition, the main villain is Xayide, and that's great. The scripts are not stupid and the new encounters with the child empress or the stone family are delightful. And then, when the kids grow up, you can offer them movies and a book as a follow-up to the basics of the classics.

Tales from the Neverending Story (2001) (sorozat)

angol I certainly don't think it's the worst series ever, but rather an Ende-inspired Canadian project that has its place on TV for teens. Tales from the Neverending Story is here for viewers of shows such as Are you afraid of the Dark? or for readers of R. L. Stine, and so at the moment you grow up, you move on and there is no drama to deal with. Others might appreciate that the plot of the famous film takes up only the first 6 episodes and the subsequent episodes are all the more interesting. The witch from the second half of the Xayide book gets plenty of space. Logically, the finale is also full of surprises.

The Garden of Allah (1936)

angol There is a lot you can read about The Garden of Allah. It is spiced up, for example, by Marlene's daughter Maria Riva in her ironic book about her mother. But what is the film really like? It’s an intoxicating Technicolor drama set in the desert through the deep eyes of Dietrich and Boyer. The costumes are sometimes rough, but where Travis Banton has unofficially returned to the game, everything is perfectly fine. Pastel colors, flowing coats, and eternal cuteness in her eyes... A hypnotic experience.

Sanghaj expressz (1932)

angol The film that defined that great art deco Travis Banton costume with the Mexican rooster feathers and the lace with the diagonal stripe. I've never seen anything like it and probably never will again. Words cannot do it justice. "It took more than one man to change my name to Shanghai Lily."

Szerelem (2015)

angol Together with feature-length HCs like Blue Is the Warmest Color or Hungry for You, Love forms my favorite "porn story cover" cycle. It's charming how Noé covers the stages of physical and emotional love, from playfulness to swingers, with mathematical precision. Only the effort is in vain of some adolescent viewers when they try to absorb so much openness and name specific things by their own names. But for the babies, there are at least a few jokes left in the dialogue about art school students deciding if 2001: A Space Odyssey is the best film. This is such a transparent classic that it can essentially satisfy everyone.

A maharadzsa gyöngye (1917)

angol The Maharaja's Favourite Wife I is one of the best films that I waited for for a very long time. Years ago, I devoured the literary version accompanied by film photographs. After that, I became familiar with the Danish miracle of the 1910s, at least in basic terms, and indeed, my patience paid off. It is great beyond expectations, modern, and perfect. I would like to enjoy it repeatedly, and the successor of the famous Psilander, Gunnar Tolnæs, was a true king of the silver screen.
