Abe Sylvia

Abe Sylvia began his career in entertainment as a Broadway dancer and performer, serving “a two year sentence” in Cats, followed by the premiere company of Mel Brooks' smash The Producers. He has worked with such directors as Susan Stroman, Trevor Nunn, Gillian Lynne, Jeremy Sams, Michael Bay, Jerry Mitchell, Jeff Calhoun and Tommy Tune. He turned his attention to film, television and commercials work in 2001.

A graduate of UCLA film school, where his mentors included Gyula Gazdag, Jerzy Antczak, Nancy Richardson and Curtiss Clayton, he is the recipient of the Jack Nicholson Distinguished Director Award, the James Bridges Prize in directing, and the Vito Russo screenwriting award. His films have screened in over 100 international festivals. He has directed and/or choreographed commercials for Svedka Vodka, Coca-Cola, and Chrysler. Recently, Abe wrote and directed a pilot for MySpace Television about the lives of six young adults at a prestigious arts college.
