Ruth Wilson continues to prove her versatility on film, stage, and television.
Her first role out of drama school was as the iconic title character of Jane Eyre, starring for director Susanna White in the 2006 miniseries adaptation. Ms. Wilson's performance garnered her Golden Globe and BAFTA Award nominations. She next starred in two telefilms for director Stephen Poliakoff, Capturing Mary (as the younger incarnation of Maggie Smith's character) and A Real Summer; in the miniseries Small Island, directed by John Alexander; and on the cult television series The Prisoner (updating the classic 1960s show) and Suburban Shootout. Her most recent television work was her recurring role opposite Idris Elba on the acclaimed series Luther, for which she received a Satellite Award nomination as the unnervingly intelligent sociopath Alice Morgan.
Ms. Wilson's stage career commenced in 2007 with Maxim Gorky's Philistines, directed by Howard Davies at the National Theatre and set in 1902 Russia. She next appeared on the London stage as Tennessee Williams' Stellain Rob Ashford's sold-out West End run of A Streetcar Named Desire, for which she an Olivier Award. After starring in Jenny Worton's adaptation of Ingmar Bergman's Through a Glass Darkly, staged by Michael Attenborough at the Almeida Theatre, she reunited with Mr. Ashford to play the title role of Eugene O'Neill's Anna Christie. Starring opposite Jude Law of Anna Karenina in the Donmar Warehouse production, she was honored with her second Olivier Award.
She was filming Jerry Bruckheimer's highly anticipated production of Gore Verbinski's The Lone Ranger,starring alongside Johnny Depp, Armie Hammer, Helena Bonham Carter, and Tom Wilkinson.
