A filmmaker who, regardless of gender, reach or media, manages to show through her stories the humanity behind each character. Riggen was born in Guadalajara, where she obtained a degree in Communication Sciences at ITESO, and worked as a journalist for the newspaper Siglo 21, and as a screenwriter for a documentary series at the University of Guadalajara. She was Deputy Director at IMCINE where she produced short films and documentaries. She has a Master's Degree in Management at Columbia University, New York. Her first short film, La milpa, received 20 international awards, including the Student's Oscar and an Ariel. Her documentary Family Portrait won the Jury's Prize at the Sundance Film Festival in 2005. Patricia directed and produced her debut opera La misma luna, which premiered in Sundance and was quickly acquired for its distribution by Fox Searchlight. The film broke box office records at its premiere in the United States and placed itself among one of the most beloved films between Latin and Mexican audiences. Patricia later directed Girl in Progress for Lionsgate and the musical Lemonade Mouth for Disney Channel, which received a DGA Award nomination and obtained 12.5 million viewers in its first two broadcasts. In 2015, Patricia premiered Los 33, a film about the mining accident in Chile, followed by Miracles from Heaven for Sony Studios that raised over 73 million dollars at the box office.
