Screenwriter and director. He studied Social Sciences at the Political and Social Sciences division at the National University of Mexico (UNAM), and filmmaking at the University Film School (CUEC, 1965-1970). He was in charge of the cine club at the Political Sicence Division and collaborated in various student newspapers. From 1965-1970 he coordinated the cine clubs at the National Technical Institute (Instituto Politécnico Nacional). In 1990, he worked as a commentator for the station Radio 690, in a program called “Qué hay de bueno” about film and opera. He became a member of the Mexican Writers Guild (SOGEM) in1972. In 1983 he taught screenwriting at the Latin American Institute of Communication (LICE). In 1993 he formed part of the jury of the National Fellowship System for Young Artists (National Council for Culture and Arts). He was a fellow of the National Fellowship System for Young Atists (1994-1997). Between 1995 and 1996 he presided the Awards Comission of the Mexican Academy of Cinema Arts and Sciences. As a student at CUEC, he made several films shot in super 8, 16 mm and 35 mm. He assisted filmmaker Juan Guerrero in the film Amelia (1965) and filmmaker Carlos Lozano Dana in the film El mes más cruel (1967). His first feature film was Los meses y los días (1971). He directed the first episode Fe in the trilogy Fe, esperanza y caridad (1972). In 1974 he made the film La lucha con la pantera. Among his other films are Hermanos del viento (1976), Lo mejor de Teresa (1977), Adriana del Río, actriz (1978), Retrato de una mujer casada (1979), Los jornales de azúcar (1983), Robachicos (1987) and Los años de Greta (1992) which, like his project Mosquitas muertas, shows his preoccupation with women’s universe.
