While working as a producer of music and music videos, Mizoguchi got to know the husband of the comic author Kaoru Tada. Through this relationship, Mizoguchi learned the comic production process. In 2008, he joined the TV animation "itazurana Kiss" for story development. Since then, he has participated in all the Japanese versions of "itazurana Kiss". With the offer from the late Kaoru Tada's husband, Mizoguchi made his directorial debut with this film.
