In 1942, during the German occupation of France, an impoverished and highly impressionable young pianist (Romane Bohringer) gets a alone when her favorite coworker, singer (Yelena Safonova), relocates to London. She wants to continue in her career, but she faces to discomfort of Safonova's possessive husband-manager. Later she becomes the accompanist of a celebrated opera singer and is drawn into her lifestyle and romantic intrigues.
