The Hire: Ticker

This is the most straightforward The Hire in terms of plot (meaning "not playing games and not shocking in the end") and technically the most well-executed. Director Carnahan stylishly but also clearly orchestrates a thrilling chase between a beautiful convertible and a helicopter. Don Cheadle in the passenger seat is supposed to have some deeper meaning (related to the content of the shipment), but the strength of the idea doesn't quite overshadow the masterfully executed form. I have no words for the action sequences because they are really well done. But story-wise, it's not a five-star affair for me. The final conclusion was nice, but what preceded it was a bit boring in places. (2011.09.16)
