Bertrand Tavernier's debut is an adaptation of Simenon's novel The Watchmaker of Everton. It is a story of a young murderer as seen through the eyes of his father who tries to understand the motives behind the gruesome crime. In this psychological drama stands out the acting of Philippe Noiret, with whom Tavernier later formed a lasting actor-director partnership. (Summer Film School)
