For four years, filmmaker Ireen van Ditshuyzen followed four people from Amsterdam who had come down with dementia. These four partook in the Amstel project, a long-term and large-scale investigation of four thousand elderly people, with a view to be able to diagnose dementia as timely as possible. Does the documentary show the consequences, particularly of Alzheimer's disease? one form of dementia ?, for patients and their immediate environment: forgetfulness, followed by painful confusion, and eventually mental deterioration. In addition, the film examines the medical aspects of dementia, emphasizing the importance of an early diagnosis. Van Ditshuyzen wants to present a truthful idea, without crossing ethical boundaries. I have always kept in mind that the images should not be degrading." (International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam)
