The film plays heavily on the fact that it features well-known Western characters. Wyatt Earp and Doc Halliday are beloved by fans, and their portrayals by Randolph Scott and Cesar Romero worked very well. Add in some shooting, a bit of romance, and beautiful women, and you've got a good Western for a short afternoon.
