Does the money targeted for development work end up in the right address? Will the poverty ever cease in the urban slums of Kibera? Radio journalist Boy Dallas is trying to find answers by giving the voice to the people living in Kibera. Dallas, originally Abdallah Musa, is worried about Kibera, the largest urban slum in Nairobi. The area has become world famous; many tourists visit the place and western money, meant for developing the area, is flowing in. Many projects, such as toilets and laundries, have been started but never finished. The scenery is dominated by abandoned shacks, drains and poorly maintained roads that coil amongst the dwellings. Poor hygiene and non-existent infrastructure are the most visible problems. Violence is everyday, the police nowhere to be seen. The journalist-documentarist Kati Juurus and her crew follow the narrator of the documentary, Dallas, on the streets of Kibera. For Kibera! does not offer definite answers. Instead, it depicts the situation in Kibera as well as the hopes and fears of the people. But the message is clear: take things into your own hands. Be the change you wish to make.
