Ripping Yarns (1976)
After the first episode (which turned out to be the weakest) I was deciding between *** and ****, but I didn't have that problem with the others. The humor of Ripping Yarns is not equal to the antics of The Flying Circus, but its trace is more than noticeable and one sometimes feels that one is watching certain cut scenes. It's hard to choose the best part - the individual parts are quite diverse, but always cute variations on spy thrillers, Christie detective stories, Poe horror, war films, adventure films and gangster movies... So in the end I give it four strong stars.__P.S. John Cleese made me laugh almost to tears in Golden Gordon - and he didn't have to do much to achieve it, either.
