Yam Daabo

Idrissa Ouédraogo’s film follows a poor family navigating a series of misfortunes. Bintou, a teenage girl, has two suitors. When she becomes pregnant, her father’s reaction sets off a tragic series of events. Somehow, the family continues to persevere. The “choice” of the film’s title, in translation, might refer to the impossible one rural families are forced to make: to leave home to try their luck in the city? (Telluride Film Festival)
