A krimisorozat csodálatosan adja vissza a viktoriánus Anglia egyedi hangulatát, London ködös, gázlámpás utcáival, korhű jelmezekkel. Az alkotók a lehetőségekhez képest hűek maradtak Conan Doyle eredeti alkotásához. S mindennek megkoronázása Jeremy Brett zseniális alakítása, hiszen Brett nem olyan, mint Holmes, hanem ő maga Sherlock Holmes. (Sorozat+)

Botrány Csehországban (1984) (S01E01)

angol Really good Holmes - Jeremy Brett may look like a typical ascetic bore, but he behaves in a completely different way - he is agile, loud, full of energy and the contrast between his appearance and character gives him a lot of pizzazz. Watson (whose representative reminds me of Luděk Munzar) is more of an observer in this case, but even so, it can be guessed that both of them will do well. ()

A táncoló emberkék (1984) (S01E02)

angol An excellent case, mysterious, suspenseful and perhaps one could even say action-packed. Something tells me I'll soon be one of those people who can't get enough of Brett’s Sherlock. Again, Watson did not accomplish much, but it was still evident that he was very important to Holmes in his thinking and whispering advice during the questioning of the witnesses. ()

A tengerészeti szerződés (1984) (S01E03)

angol The revelation this time isn't surprising or dramatic, but I still love that the creators chose these somewhat neglected, but not uninteresting, cases to start the series. Holmes is on the move from start to finish (my suspicion that it was Brett's concept that inspired Benedict Cumberbatch the most is getting stronger and stronger), thinking hard and clearly enjoying it, with Watson getting more and more involved with each episode. ()

A magányos biciklista (1984) (S01E04)

angol The cases that are not exactly about the search for a sinister murderer are in my opinion the ones that make Holmes who he is. They show him as a capable investigator who is admirably dogged in his pursuit of something that intrigues him, and in doing so helps a man in need, and this film episode captures it all perfectly. ()

A nyomorék (1984) (S01E05)

angol I am very fond of the impatient Holmes, who first shouts at a man who is unable to say anything useful, only to look at him in silence and ask further questions just by moving his eyebrows. This case is really brilliant, and not only because of that. ()

A pöttyös szalag (1984) (S01E06)

angol The atmosphere is priceless, it’s so suspenseful that at times it becomes almost horror. Not that this has prevented Holmes from the obvious enthusiasm with which he sets about his investigation. ()

A kék karbunkulus (1984) (S01E07)

angol One of my favorite Holmes cases and the best episode of the first season of the series. The investigation is a little lighter and the Christmassy mood gives it a warm touch of humanity, Jeremy Brett excels and David Burke as Watson is as good as it gets for this pair. ()

A Vérbűn kastély (1985) (S02E01)

angol I didn’t know this story and it was a very pleasant surprise. A downright horror atmosphere and an excellent beginning for the second season. ()

A görög tolmács (1985) (S02E02)

angol Another very suspenseful case. Holmes' adversaries this time are unprecedentedly slimy and unpredictable and the viewer has the feeling that everything is at stake. I never imagined Mycroft to be that old, but what the heck, the two Holmeses (even with Watson) complemented each other beautifully and didn't overdo it, as they usually do in other adaptations. ()

A norwoodi építész (1985) (S02E03)

angol Hands down, one of the best episodes of this series so far. Especially when a doubtful Holmes stops doubting and takes another bite with absolute confidence, it’s flawless. ()

A rettegő beteg (1985) (S02E04)

angol A great scene with Watson and Holmes in the barbershop, Holmes looking around the crime scene, a suggestive hanging, a sweetly funny punchline in the closing credits. So far, the second season of this series hasn't missed a beat. ()

Vöröshajúak klubja (1985) (S02E05)

angol Holmes solves the case in three pipes, jumping over a sofa with excitement… Jeremy Brett is really amazing, and unlike the source material, he's already getting in Professor Moriarty's way, which is only a good thing. ()

A végső probléma (1985) (S02E06)

angol To film one of the most typical Holmes stories in such a way that it is interesting, even though the viewer knows what (doesn't) happen, is probably quite a thankless task. But it worked, and what's more, it turned out great. The angry Jeremy Brett is excellent in the opening minutes of the great finale of the second series, but he's equally great in the last act, when Holmes knows exactly what's coming and is just waiting for it to come. David Burke owes his colleague nothing, and Moriarty is truly diabolical. ()
