A rózsa vére

It can be said that Rose Red is a typical television adaptation of Stephen King's work, meaning it is very average with mediocre actors. However, it benefits from the quality of the original material, and therefore is not outright bad. If the producers had exercised some editing and judgment, a high-quality single-episode TV movie could have been made instead of a three-part miniseries, which would have clearly deserved four stars. As it stands, alongside excellent scenes and shots that definitely do not lack atmosphere - like the scene in the winter garden - there is a lot of filler and boring dialogue. I don't think it's an outright bad piece of work on King's part, but it's generally rather average in terms of what has been based on it. Even though there's no novel to adapt from, there's still a sense that the atmosphere is lacking here, and overall, it's a bit cliché, both in terms of the horror of the haunted house and as a film adaptation of King's horror. In reality, there aren't characters that truly captivate me here, and there isn't a house that overall stands on solid ground. (2015.04.13)
